It’s been one month since I announced I’m running for President of the United States of America. In that month, I’ve gotten to talk to thousands of Americans all around the country and hear their concerns, their dreams, and what they’re looking for in a leader.
I’ve noticed a beautiful thing happening in my travels - while I’m trying to spread my message of optimism and faith in this great country of ours, I am instead, becoming inspired by YOUR message of optimism and faith in YOUR journeys.
One woman, at my town hall with Sean Hannity in South Carolina, had my Mama sign a book for her, which you can see in the picture below. Her father, who has since passed, was a WWII veteran. Her father’s dedication and sacrifice to this great nation, and her dedication to keeping his legacy alive is what inspires me.
Another woman I spoke with came to me supporting another candidate. She was only in attendance at my event at the behest of her friend. She was in a wheelchair and didn’t need to go through the trouble of attending my event, but she did. And because she came with an open mind, and heard a message of optimism and positivity, she left a supporter. Just more proof that our message resonates, and Americans are hungry for conservative values. We just need to share the message as far and wide as possible.
When it comes to leadership, the first thing I can tell you is that Joe Biden ain’t it, y’all. He’s made that obvious. What I can also tell you, is that Americans are starved for optimistic leadership. They want a leader whose optimism is anchored in conservative values. That shouldn’t be difficult, because conservative values are American values.
Optimism shouldn’t be falsely equated with weakness, however. It’s not only possible, but imperative, that American leaders show strength on a global stage while having belief in the goodness of America, and her people.
America is the only land on earth where your grit, determination, and hard work are the only limits to what you can achieve. And while out on the trail, I’m learning that I’m not the only one that believes in this. From farms, to churches, to small businesses, I’ve heard your stories of struggle turned success. Your stories are the fabric of this country, and with the right leadership, I have faith that I’ll hear many more.
Optimism fuels America. It propels us to dream big, to reach for the stars, and to push the boundaries of what’s possible. I want to reignite this optimism within every citizen, reminding them that the power to shape our nation’s future lies within them.
When I look ahead, I see a nation where opportunity abounds, where success is within reach for all, and where my American Dream pales to that of those who come after me.
Let’s keep at it, y’all.
- Tim Scott
